Summer Vacation Ideas 2022

Most people envision their summer vacations filled with countless outdoor activities, time spent splashing around in the water, and fun summer activities the whole family will love. While the majority of these things to do in Puerto Vallarta aren’t exclusive to the summer months, it is a great time to enjoy the best of Vallarta without all the crowds.

1. Go to the Beach

There is no hiding the fact that it’s hot in Puerto Vallarta during the summer, so anything water related is going to be a hit for your summer vacation, which is perfect because the Mexico destination has some of the most scenic beaches in the country. Hit up Playa Delfines, Playa Los Muertos, or Conchas Chinas for fun in the sun and an array of beach activities your whole family will love.

2. Hike to Las Animas

Las Animas is one of the most fun places to go in the summer. Head out early in the morning to beat the heat. The hike takes about an hour and a half from La Boca, and while it is a moderate workout, it is also one of the best outdoor activities because it gets you moving and rewards you along the way. During the hike, you’ll head up into the jungle and back down to pristine beaches. Jump in and cool off before completing the next leg of your trip. At the end, you’ll find delicious seafood restaurants, giant margaritas, fun beach activities, and water taxis to take you back to La Boca or the pier in Puerto Vallarta.

3. Play in the Pool

No doubt one of the best summer activities on your trip to Puerto Vallarta will be the time you spend splashing around in the pool. Some of the best resorts have poolside activities, slides, and splash pads to keep you and your children entertained throughout the day.

4. Snorkel at Los Arcos

Los Arcos is always one of the biggest summer attractions in Puerto Vallarta. The rock formations that jut up out of the water just off the coast are home to a large bird population and schools of tropical fish beneath the water’s surface, making it an intriguing spot to snorkel when you’re trying to figure out what to do in Puerto Vallarta on a summer’s day. Book a tour, bring your eco-friendly sunscreen, and explore the sea on a snorkeling tour you won’t ever forget.

5. Visit the Botanical Gardens

One of the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta any time of the year is to visit the Botanical Gardens that are south of town. The gardens are absolutely mesmerizing and home to a wealth of flora and fauna that is both native to the region and from other parts of the world. There are trails to hike, a restaurant that serves up delicious foods, and a river where you can play. Head out early in the morning when the temperatures are cooler and if you decide to swim, pay close attention to the speed of the river. During the rainy season, the rivers in Puerto Vallarta can increase in speed and depth, making it unsafe to swim. Check with the staff at the Botanical Gardens if you aren’t sure or watch what others are doing.

6. Climb to Mirador de la Cruz

At the center of downtown, there is a lookout spot that gives you the perfect view of the entire bay. This is one of the summer attractions that will make you sweat, but it’s well worth the climb. Start at the bottom, pace yourself as you climb up the hills and then ascend the steps, drink plenty of water, and then snap the best selfies in front of Banderas Bay. Climbing up to La Cruz del Cerro will give you one of the best views of the popular Mexico destination.

7. Walk the Malecon

When you’re looking for what to do in Puerto Vallarta, walking the Malecon will come up on everyone’s list of must-see summer attractions. Head out early in the morning or in the evening when the temperatures are more pleasant and there’s more activity. Visit the boutique shops, admire the numerous sculptures, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy the street artists that pop up along the way. Be sure to stop at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, an iconic spot in Puerto Vallarta, for some beautiful pictures before continuing on your way.

8. Explore El Cora Crocodile Sanctuary

One of the most fun places to go in summer, this crocodile sanctuary is educational, shocking, and memorable. Take advantage of the opportunity to get up close with some of the earth’s oldest inhabitants as you learn about their habitats and what it takes to protect them. You may even get the chance to hold a baby croc.
